Amplifying Pacific Voices in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Best Available Climate Science
Government of Samoa
A COP31 side event that highlights the current Pacific engagement within the IPCC process, specifically exploring participation barriers and practical solutions to amplify Pacific voices within climate research and science. This side event will bring together Pacific policymakers, researchers and IPCC experts to identify practical ways to strengthen regional engagement in the IPCC process, specifically as authors and expert reviewers. 1. An introductory video highlighting Pacific experiences, opportunities and barriers in engaging with the IPCC. 2. A panel discussion with four experts, ideally representing each Pacific subregion, followed by audience Q & A. Panellists will share lessons from their engagement and discuss how stronger coordination, capacity-building and regional partnerships can increase Pacific participation throughout the Seventh Assessment Report cycle, which is due in late 2029. The session will also consider how Pacific research, traditional knowledge, priorities, and lived experiences can be better reflected in the science that informs global climate negotiations and action at SB and COP.
