Building Regional Capacity for Climate and Health: The PAVE-Health Initiative to Strengthen Evidence and Health System Resilience in Pacific Small Island Developing States
Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, SPREP
This side event will showcase how PAVE-Health is strengthening regional capacity and partnerships to translate climate and health evidence into policies and actions that build climate-resilient health systems across Pacific Island countries. This side event will showcase how the Pacific Action to Enhance the Visibility of Evidence on Health and Climate Impacts (PAVE-Health) project is strengthening capacity to address the health impacts of climate change across the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Samoa and Solomon Islands. It will highlight the projects collaborative approach, bringing together regional organisations, academic institutions, ministries of health and in-country research teams to generate, interpret and translate climate and health evidence into policy and practice. The session will share early experiences from Master Trainer programmes, country-level workshops, mentorship, applied research, stakeholder engagement and regional knowledge exchange. It will demonstrate how these activities are strengthening competencies in climate and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments, evidence synthesis and knowledge translation. The event will also explore how locally generated evidence can support ministries of health to identify priority adaptation actions and build climate-resilient health systems. Participants will gain insights into a collaborative and scalable model that invests in Pacific people, institutions and partnerships to strengthen long-term regional resilience to the health impacts of climate change.
