Identifying practical solutions to ensure climate finance is accessible and responsive to those most impacted by climate change. Climate finance is increasing, yet persons with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples remain largely excluded from accessing, shaping and benefiting from these investments. Despite being among those most affected by climate change, organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and Indigenous-led organisations continue to face significant barriers to direct funding and participation in climate finance decision-making. This event will explore how climate finance can become more equitable, accessible and accountable. Bringing together OPDs, Indigenous organisations, donors and climate finance institutions, the discussion will showcase practical examples of inclusive financing, examine persistent barriers, and identify solutions that enable local communities to lead climate action. Speakers will discuss how disability inclusion can be integrated across adaptation, mitigation, loss and damage, and locally led climate action. The session will also examine the role of governments, multilateral climate funds and development partners in ensuring finance reaches those on the frontlines of the climate crisis. The event will conclude with practical recommendations for COP31 and beyond, demonstrating that inclusive climate finance is not only a matter of equity and human rights, but also essential for delivering more effective, resilient and sustainable climate action.
