From Pacific Priorities to Global Action: Strengthening Pacific Leadership in International Climate Engagement
SPREP
Showcasing how Pacific-led partnerships are strengthening climate diplomacy, amplifying Pacific priorities, and advancing collective leadership in international climate negotiations towards COP31 and beyond. Pacific Island Countries have consistently demonstrated leadership in international climate change negotiations, advocating for ambitious global action and ensuring Pacific priorities are reflected in international climate outcomes. The Strengthening Pacific Leadership in International Climate Change Engagement (SPLICCE) Project has played a critical role in supporting Pacific climate diplomacy, technical capacity and coordinated engagement in the UNFCCC process. The success of this work is underpinned by a partnership between SPREP, Climate Analytics and Pacific Small Island Developing States, working collectively to strengthen Pacific leadership and bring Pacific priorities to the forefront of international climate negotiations. This critical work to support the Pacific's engagement in international climate change diplomacy is enabled by funding provided by the Government of Australia. As the first phase of the SPLICCE project concludes, SPLICCE 2.0, alongside dedicated support under the COP31 Pacific Partnership, will build on these achievements and strengthen Pacific capacity for strategic and coordinated engagement in international climate processes. This side event will highlight key lessons and achievements from SPLICCE and explore how sustained partnerships can strengthen Pacific leadership and influence towards COP31 and beyond.
