From Science to Resilience: Celebrating Australia's Pacific Partnership in Climate and Ocean Services
Australian Government, SPREP
Pacific leaders and Australian and regional partners will showcase how more than two decades of sustained Australian investment and Pacific leadership have transformed climate and ocean science into locally led services that strengthen early warning, decision-making and resilience across the Pacific. For more than two decades, Australia and Pacific partners have worked together to strengthen the climate and ocean science, observations and services that underpin resilience across the Pacific. This high-level event will bring together Pacific leaders, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, and Australian and regional partners to celebrate the impact of this sustained partnership. With the Climate and Ocean Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac) as a central example, the event will showcase how long-term investment has strengthened Pacific capability and leadership, expanded climate and ocean services, supported early warning systems, and enabled governments, sectors and communities to make better-informed decisions. Through Pacific voices, national examples and a short impact video, the event will demonstrate how climate and ocean science, Traditional Knowledge, regional cooperation and sustained capacity development are translating into practical outcomes for Pacific communities. Looking ahead, the event will explore the partnerships needed to sustain and strengthen these essential services in a changing climate, connecting science with services, services with decisions, and decisions with greater resilience.
