Indigenous and Community Adaptation across New Zealand/Aotearoa and the Blue Pacific
New Zealand
Traditional knowledge. Frontline solutions. Long before "adaptation" was a COP agenda item, Maori and Pacific peoples read the land, rivers, oceans and stars to thrive through change. This event showcases three examples of how Maori and Pacific communities are using their traditional knowledge to adapt to climate change. Hear from New Zealand’s marae that are strengthening resilience to keep their doors open when disaster strikes, and from Pacific communities pairing traditional knowledge with modern technology. This event will highlight how Indigenous knowledge, science and technology combine to strengthen planning, early warning and recovery, and demonstrate the value of Indigenous leadership.
