Pacific Health in a Changing Climate: Financing Country-led Innovation for Resilient Health Systems.
Pacific Community
Pacific health leaders and partners will showcase country-led innovations from Solomon Islands and Fiji building the case for greater investment in climate-resilient health systems across the Pacific. Climate change is already reshaping health risks across the Pacific, increasing pressure on disease surveillance, safe water systems, emergency preparedness and frontline health services. This side event will position climate-resilient health systems as an urgent adaptation and climate finance priority. The side event will showcase the Pacific Network for Health and Climate Change (PNHCC) Fellowship as a practical example of how Pacific peer learning, mentoring and regional collaboration can strengthen workforce capacity and advance country-led climate adaptation. Drawing on the complementary experiences of Fiji and Solomon Islands, the discussion will explore how regional collaboration, practical approaches and targeted technical support can strengthen workforce capacity to assess climate risks and implement improvements in health facilities. It will highlight the role of national Health National Adaptation Plans (H-NAPs) in guiding facility-level adaptation, including climate-resilient infrastructure, and the protection of essential healthcare delivery during climate-related events. The session will examine how these approaches can access the implementation of Health National Adaptation Plans, build climate smart workforce and better integrate health priorities into Nationally Determined Contributions and climate finance proposals. Bringing together Pacific Ministries of Health, the Pacific Community, the Australian Centre for Disease Control, the World Health Organization will present a compelling case for greater investment in Pacific-led solutions that protect lives, strengthen national health systems and turn regional knowledge and innovation into scalable action.
