Pacific Voices to Global Action: Delivering Climate and Resilience Solutions for SIDS
Government of Palau, Government of Japan
The event showcases Pacific SIDS collaborative climate and resilience solutions highlighting decarbonization, integrated environmental action, and international partnerships to amplify regional leadership and key messages at COP31. The concept note outlines a COP31 side event designed to elevate Pacific Small Island Developing States priorities on decarbonization, climate resilience, and integrated environmental action. Building on the 2026 SIDS Decarbonization and Environment Forum held in Palau, the event convenes MOE Japan, Pacific governments, Pacific regional organizations and partners, such as CCAC, IRENA, and the GCF to showcase practical, locally grounded solutions spanning renewable energy deployment, climate finance access, waste and water management, air quality, and nature-based resilience. Speakers from Palau, Fiji, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and regional and international organizations will highlight initiatives such as integrated water and sewerage systems, off grid energy access through blended finance, JCM-supported renewable energy expansion, organics recycling and methane mitigation, and national air quality action. The session aims to amplify Pacific voices, share lessons learned and identify future partnership opportunities that advance 1.5°C aligned action and deliver sustainable development benefits for SIDS.
