Partners in Resilience: Island-Led Solutions for Climate, Biodiversity and Ocean Action
Global Island Partnership, Micronesia Conservation Trust
This high-level dialogue will showcase Pacific alongside other SIDS regions island leadership in demonstrating how integrated investment in nature can simultaneously deliver climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, healthy oceans, healthy communities and sustainable development. For more than two decades, Pacific island nations have demonstrated that integrated approaches to conserving nature, strengthening climate resilience and supporting sustainable development are not aspirational - they are already being delivered. The Micronesia Challenge, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026, together with the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) and the wider family of island-led initiatives it inspired, represent some of the world's longest-running and most successful examples of integrated conservation and resilience. These initiatives have united governments, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, conservation trust funds and international partners around long-term commitments that simultaneously protect biodiversity, strengthen food and water security, build climate resilience and sustain livelihoods. As COP31 places unprecedented emphasis on implementation, adaptation and climate finance, Pacific islands offer a compelling message: investing in resilient ecosystems is investing in resilient people. This event will position proven island partnerships as scalable implementation platforms capable of accelerating delivery of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and global ocean commitments.
