Showcasing Kiribati GHG inventory system

Kiribati Government, ICLEI

Watch Live

Showcase what Kiribati GHG inventory looks like and how it works. This side event will showcase Kiribati's strengthened Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory System and its contribution to improving national climate transparency, evidence-based policymaking and implementation of the Paris Agreement. The event will highlight Kiribati's progress in establishing a coordinated and sustainable system for collecting, managing, analysing and reporting GHG emissions data across key sectors, including energy, agriculture and waste. The session will demonstrate how the system supports the preparation of regular GHG inventories, strengthens institutional roles and data management, and improves the quality, consistency and transparency of national emissions data. It will also highlight the links between the GHG Inventory System, Kiribati's Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) arrangements, NDC implementation and tracking of mitigation progress. The event will provide an opportunity to share Kiribati's experience as a Small Island Developing State, including challenges, lessons learned and approaches to building national capacity and institutional ownership. It will also explore opportunities for continued regional cooperation, technical support, technology and capacity building to sustain and further strengthen Kiribati's GHG inventory system.
