Te Kahu Pokere: Maori-Led Solutions, Rangatahi-Led Action
Te Kahu Pokere, of Pou Take Ahuarangi (National Iwi Chairs Forum)
A conversation led by young Maori leaders exploring how Maori knowledge, rights and community-led solutions can shape climate action across Aotearoa New Zealand and Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (Pacific). This session brings together Te Kahu Pokere, a Maori youth climate collective, sharing how Maori communities in Aotearoa New Zealand are adapting to climate change through Māori knowledge, practical action and youth leadership. Through stories from their home regions, speakers will highlight community grounded efforts to protect lands, freshwater and oceans. They will discuss the challenges communities face, the solutions they are developing and the priorities needed to advance this work. The session will connect Maori experiences with those of other Indigenous and Pacific youth, identifying shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration. It will call on governments, funders and partners to uphold Indigenous rights, invest in Indigenous-led solutions and support young people as climate decision-makers.
