Showcasing a Pacific-led Model for National Climate Services, Adaptation Investment, and the Next Generation of Digital Delivery. Climate information services are essential enabling infrastructure for climate adaptation, resilient development and informed investment. They provide the bridge between climate science and decision-making, transforming complex climate information into practical information that government, communities, businesses and investors can use to reduce climate risk and build resilience. This side event will showcase Vanuatu's Climate Information Services for Resilient Development in Vanuatu (Van-KIRAP) initiative, led by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department (VMGD) in partnership with SPREP. Van-KIRAP established one of the Pacific's leading nationally owned climate information services, demonstrating how sustained investment in local capability can strengthen climate resilience and support evidence-based decision-making across government and key sectors. A central achievement of the initiative is the Vanuatu Climate Futures Portal, which provides accessible climate information, projections, mapping tools and decision-support resources for agriculture, infrastructure, fisheries, tourism and water management. The Portal now supports climate-informed planning and adaptation investment across Vanuatu, providing a trusted foundation for understanding climate risks, informing current and future development decisions and guiding future resilience investments. As one of the Pacific's most comprehensive national climate information services platforms, the Vanuatu Climate Futures Portal has not previously been showcased at a Conference of the Parties. COP31 provides an opportunity to share lessons from this Pacific-led success story and demonstrate how climate information can be translated into practical adaptation outcomes, resilient development pathways and better decision-making. The event will also explore the next generation of climate services for Vanuatu. Building on the foundations established through Van-KIRAP, participants will discuss how advances in climate modelling, impact assessment, and digital delivery can expand climate services into new application areas, including health, resilient infrastructure, coastal planning, and community resilience. The discussion will highlight how existing investments can be leveraged to meet evolving user needs while strengthening nationally led climate services over the coming decade. Vanuatu's experience provides a proven model for strengthening climate services across the Pacific. The event will explore how the lessons, partnerships and capabilities developed through Van-KIRAP can support future investment in climate services, both in Vanuatu and across other Pacific Island countries, delivering trusted, locally relevant and decision-ready information that strengthens adaptation, resilience and sustainable development.
