Rising Seas: Visualising Science for Pacific Decisions

Government of Fiji, Government of Republic of Marshall Islands, Government of Samoa, Government of Tuvalu, Government of Republic of Vanuatu, Pacific Community

Watch Live

Pacific leaders use immersive visualisations and world-class science to reveal the realities of sea-level rise and demonstrate how evidence can strengthen decision-making, unlock climate finance and accelerate urgent action. Led by the Government of Vanuatu, this interactive exhibition will use 3D models, coastal visualisations and Pacific data to demonstrate how sea-level-rise science can inform decisions on adaptation, infrastructure, relocation, Loss and Damage, and climate finance. Led by the Government of Vanuatu with technical support from the Pacific Community (SPC), this member country-led interactive exhibition will demonstrate how sea-level-rise modelling, earth observation and national datasets can be integrated into practical decision-support tools for Pacific governments. Through 3D island models, coastal visualisations, geospatial information, national datasets and Digital Earth Pacific imagery, visitors will explore historical coastal change and future sea-level-rise and inundation scenarios affecting Vanuatu, Fiji, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tuvalu. A live technical demonstration will bring together information on coastlines, settlements, infrastructure, freshwater, food systems, fisheries and ecosystems to identify exposed assets and communicate future risks. Pacific country representatives will explain how these tools can inform national adaptation planning, infrastructure investment, coastal management, relocation discussions, Loss and Damage assessments and climate finance proposals. The exhibition will connect national data and local perspectives with decisions facing Pacific governments and communities. It will also highlight data sovereignty, national ownership and the importance of presenting complex scientific evidence in formats that policymakers and financing institutions can readily understand and use. By bringing together Pacific science, technology and country experience, the event will elevate Pacific leadership and identify opportunities to expand these tools, datasets and technical capabilities across Pacific Island countries and territories.
